Reading satellite data

The satellite layer reveals variation within your field before the eye can pick it out. The image is read at 10-meter pixels. In each scene cloud and shadow pixels are masked, and indices are computed only within your boundary. Below is how to read this map.

Where: Field → “Satellite image”

  1. Open the field

    Tap a field from the list and go to the “Satellite image” section. A colored satellite layer appears over your field.

  2. Choose an index

    Choose an index from the chips at the top: NDVI (vegetation density), NDMI (moisture), NDRE/CIre (nitrogen), NDWI (water) and others. Each index answers a different question.

  3. Read the legend

    The color bar is labeled Weak → Medium → Healthy for vegetation indices, and Dry → Medium → Wet for water indices. A zone close to red needs attention.

  4. Find the patches on the map

    The color isn't an average number — it's a pixel-level map. If you see a red patch in one corner, the problem (an irrigation blockage, nitrogen shortage, disease hotspot) is starting right there.

  5. Slide the date strip

    The date strip at the bottom shows each scene's date and cloud percentage. Slide among past scenes to track how the condition has changed.

  6. Change the contrast, compare two dates

    The “contrast” mode makes faint differences visible. Putting two dates side by side and comparing with last year are here too.

Tips

  • Scenes with a high cloud percentage are unreliable — the system excludes cloud/shadow pixels from the calculation anyway.
  • If NDMI (moisture) drops in the same spot as NDVI, it's often about irrigation.
  • The data-saver mode turns off heavy tiles; it's useful when the village internet is weak.
